Minutarian Week 23: December 2, 2022

Without any club visits, this was a fun week to celebrate Foundation and Fellowship as we closed out The Rotary Foundation month and Tuesday’s Annual Day of Giving.

What a great day to celebrate The Rotary Foundation with a presentation by Past District Governor and Annual Giving Chair Russ Miller, to recognize the selfless donation by DS & Angela Patel for their membership into the Arch Klumph Society and recognize new Paul Harris Fellows at the Rotary Club of Port Orange South/Daytona along with Past District Governor and District Foundation Chair Jeanette Loftus, Past District Governor Rich Cooper, District Governor Nominee Mickey Ulmer and Assistant Governor Hewitt Dupont.

With the first ever Membership Summit at Daytona State College in Palm Coast around the corner, have you signed up? It is 9am-12:30pm (Continental Breakfast and fellowship begins at 8am) on Saturday January 28. Cost is $25 and speakers will include Past Rotary International Director Jeffry Cadorette; Aide to Rotary International President Nominee Stephanie Urchick, Tom Gump; and Zone 33/34 Regional Membership Officer, Audley Knight. Seating will be limited so sign up now.

A special evening of Rotary Fellowship as Maureen and I brought our friends—Rotarians & non-Rotarians—to join the Rotary Club of Palm Valley to see St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights. Thanks President Zeke Paxton for inviting us.

RYLA 2023 has a new format. We are hoping that every club will sponsor 2 students. Has your club completed the pledge form? The effort is being led by the District Youth Services Committee, Chaired by Lt. Governor Michael Bruce. Cost will be $150 per participant and will include:

  • Act I—Saturday March 25 in person 8am-4:30pm, Keynote Speaker Jade Gordon (including a food packing event with Rotarians).
  • Act II—Saturday April 15 Zoom 9-1pm.
  • Act III—Saturday May 13 in person 8-4:30pm, Keynote Speaker Orion Jean (this will be running parallel to our District Conference and will separate presentations from District Conference speakers).

The Rotary week ended with a great opportunity to recognize the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach for their commitment to The Rotary Foundation with banners for 100% per capita giving above $100, 100% Giving by Every Rotarian Every Year and #2 in Total Giving for District 6970! Thanks to the leadership of Past Rotary Foundation Chair Rob Stursberg, Past President Lori Anderson and President Doc Renuart. Nice job!

Tickets are still available for the January 8 Jaguars game. Buy your tickets today. Don’t forget, you can donate to a student or veteran. A group of us had a chance to celebrate Rotary Fellowship together. There were two Rotary/Jaguars games this year and the Jaguars played great, winning both. Although it may be a stretch to suggest causality, I will leave it to you! The Jaguars certainly play better with Rotarians in the house!
