Minutarian Week 5: August 1, 2022

This week marked the passing of  PDG Big Ed (Edward Peck) past member of the Rotary Clubs of Daytona and Gainesville. Ed was 104 and was District Governor in 1966-1967 when our District was 694.

Rotary’s COVID-19 Task Force has designated 21-27 August 2022 as Health Care Workers Week. We encourage Rotary and Rotaract clubs to use this time to recognize the work of health care professionals in their clubs and in their communities.

For the second year in a row, Rotary International has collaborated with Kiwanis, Lions and Optimists to Celebrate Community during the week of September 11-17. This public effort encourages clubs to reach out to one another to work together on projects that improve and benefit your local community.

Have you and members of your club signed up for the Vibrant Club Seminar on August 20 at St. Johns River State College in Palatka? This is the last time that we will get together as a district in 2022. Don’t miss this important opportunity for training and fellowship.

Picture of the Week
Check out the picture below celebrating Echo Lake Farms which is located in southern Clay County, near the intersections of Alachua, Clay, & Putnam Counties. The focus of this Rotarian driven collaboration is to develop and build homes for families fostering children in Florida. These homes will be farmhouses of approximately 2,500 square feet. Families will live there in a setting unlike traditional group homes. Fostering families, approved by the state of Florida, will enter into two-year leases and live and work the farm, along with the children who are assigned to them. This may be a glimpse of future foster-care in our state.

Rotarian Board members joining Judy & Milton Starnes (middle) of Echo Lake Farms include President Don Fann (Green Cove Springs), PDG Russ Miller (Green Cove Springs), President Bo Norton (Orange Park), AG Cindy Dalecki (Flagler Beach) and PHS Chair Larry Klaybor (Orange Park).
