Minutarian Week 9: August 30th, 2021

Calling for Nominations for District Governor!

It’s that time of year again when we must consider who will be our future district leader. We are calling for nominations for District 6970 District Governor Nominee Designate. It’s one of the longest and hardest to remember tittles in all of Rotary. The selected individual will serve our members as District Governor for the Rotary 2024-2025 Rotary year.

To find out how to nominate someone, please see the link to our District 6970 Web site. https://rotarydistrict6970.org/nominating-a-district-governor/

District Governor is one of the best positions in Rotary, possibly even better than Immediate Past President. Please consider nominating a special Rotarian for this very important Rotary position.

Polio Update!

It’s a very special Anniversary.

African region marks one year since being certified wild polio-free!

Together, we’ve made tremendous progress in the fight to end polio. In August 2020, the World Health Organization’s African region was certified free of wild poliovirus — an incredible milestone that was made possible by the leadership, dedication, and support of countless Rotary members and health workers, our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), and African region leaders.

The eradication of wild polio in the African region shows that total wild polio eradication is possible. Learn more about this historic achievement and Rotary’s commitment to keeping Africa free of wild poliovirus and ending polio worldwide.

Get ready for World Polio Day
Take action for World Polio Day on October 24th by promoting awareness of Rotary’s polio eradication efforts, raising funds, and planning club events. I hope all clubs have something planned to support and raise awareness for Rotary’s fight to end polio once and for all. Be sure to register your club’s participation for World Polio Day on endpolio.org

Vibrant Club!

Rotary is alive and well at Daytona Beach West where 10 new members were inducted and four members became first time Paul Harris Fellows.
Pictured above are PDG Bill Griffin, DGE Jeff Michelman, AG Hewitt DuPont, Daytona Beach West President Katie Widdison, AG Charles Miller, and Daytona Beach West President-Elect Joe Chance.
Daytona Beach continues to meet using a hybrid model with members now living in Jamaica and Kenya. The club’s international footprint has grown dramatically by embracing technology.

Pic of the Week

Rotary Pork Butts!
Had a great time with President C.W. Phipps and crew from East Arlington Rotary in the wee hours of the morning, smoking Boston butts (aka, Rotary Pork Butts), for their fundraiser to benefit Tree Hill Nature Preserve.

Have a great Rotary Week all!
