WHAT IS ROTARACT
Rotaract means Rotary in Action. A Rotaract club is a Rotary-sponsored organization bringing together young adults ages 18-30 to take action in their communities and internationally to develop their leadership and professional skills. They do this while networking and having fun! Rotaract clubs set the direction of their club’s activities and are self-supporting. There are two kinds of Rotaract clubs: univeristy or college-based and community based. Rotarian Advisors and Faculy Advisors (for collegiate clubs) act as mentors and counselors to assist the club in achieving its goals. In our District, the community-based clubs are for young professionals who have completed college.
Rotaract is an inclusive group of young leaders dedicated to developing themselves as world citizens while promoting meaningful Service Above Self in our community, in our nation, and around the world.
Our global Rotaract membership totals over 184,000 in more than 8,000 clubs worldwide.
Because individual Rotary clubs sponsor Rotaract clubs and offer guidance and support, Rotaract clubs become true “partners in service” and key members of the Family of Rotary.
THE PURPOSE OF ROTARACT
The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for Rotaractors to enhance their knowledge and skills that will assit them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship, and service, and whose goals are:
1) To develop professional and leadership skills;
2) To emphasize respect for all the rights of others, and to promote ethical standards and the dignity of all useful occupations;
3) To provide opportunities for young people to address the needs and concerns of the community and our world;
4) To provide opportunities for working in cooperation with sponsor Rotary clubs;
5) To motivate young people for eventual membership in Rotary.
A former Rotary International President K.R. Ravindran chose “Be a Gift to the World” as his theme for 2015-2016. He urged Rotary and Rotaract members to give the gifts of time talent, and knowledge to improve lives in communities across the globe. RI President Ravindran stated, “Through Rotary, we can take these gifts and make a genuine difference in the lives of others and in our world.” The Rotaractors in District 6970 are encouraged to explore ways to be a gift to the world through their activities and projects.
